# Strollers

A pet stroller's wheel count, tire type, and frame class decide whether it's built to jog, bike, fly, or just move a senior or injured pet around the block. Its headline weight limit matters less than the cabin's actual floor area, which is what really decides whether a given dog fits.

## How it works

A pet stroller is a wheeled frame with a fabric-and-mesh cabin that substitutes for walking: wheels carry the load (three for a jogger's straight-line tracking, four for standing stability), an interior tether keeps the pet from jumping out, and a canopy or mesh panel manages sun and airflow. Jogging models add air-filled tires and suspension to absorb impact at running speed, plus a lockable front swivel to track straight. Everyday and mobility models trade that for a low ramp or a zipperless flip door so a senior or injured pet can get in without being lifted. Bicycle-trailer models add a hitch so the frame tows behind a bike instead of being pushed. Detachable travel models shrink to an airline-compliant carrier that unclips from the frame entirely. The stated weight limit only means something next to the cabin's floor area — a dog under the cap can still not fit.

## What to surface

### Stroller type

What the stroller is built around: running alongside a jog, towing behind a bike, flying as an airline carrier, or everyday walks and mobility support. Each type is judged on a different set of attributes. A jogging stroller lives or dies on its swivel lock and suspension; a bike-trailer combo on its hitch; a travel carrier on airline fit; an everyday/mobility stroller on how easily a pet gets in. [4] [3] [2] [1]

Values: jogging_running, bicycle_trailer_combo, detachable_travel_carrier, everyday_walking_or_mobility.
Question to ask: Jogging, biking, flying, or everyday walks and mobility help?

Used as: top-level split, filter. Data: derived from listing fields, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Derive from the collection the listing is filed under ('Jogging Strollers', 'Bicycle Trailer / Stroller', 'Detachable Pet Strollers') or title keywords.
Title and category keyword match covers nearly every listing; default to everyday_walking_or_mobility when no type keyword appears.

### Max pet weight

The heaviest pet the manufacturer rates the stroller to carry safely. It is the first filter, but it is not sufficient on its own: a dog under the weight cap can still not fit if the cabin's floor area is too small, so experts check this alongside cabin size, not instead of it. [2] [1] [8]

Range: 16 to 110 lb.
Question to ask: About how much does your pet weigh?

Used as: top-level split, filter. Data: on the listing, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Almost always stated as 'Max Pet Weight' or 'Weight Capacity' in the product title or spec table on brand DTC pages; not independently confirmed on third-party marketplace listings.
Spec-table field on nearly every listing; when absent, default to the lowest bracket since compact/travel models rarely state it prominently.
Chart: position on a weight-capacity axis, 16 to 110 lb.

### Entry access

How a pet gets into the cabin: a zipperless flip-down panel, a zippered mesh door, a built-in access ramp, or lifting through a fully-opening canopy. This is the attribute that decides whether a senior, arthritic, or injured pet can get in without being lifted; a ramp or a fully-opening canopy is needed for pets that can't be hoisted, while a quick flip panel is enough for a healthy pet that climbs in itself. [8] [1]

Values: zipperless_flip_entry, zippered_mesh_door, access_ramp, top_opening_canopy_lift.
Question to ask: Can your pet climb in, or does it need a ramp?

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Usually in the description ('zipperless entry', 'retractable access ramp', 'fully opening canopy'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match the description; default to zippered_mesh_door when unstated, the most common basic design.

### Wheel count

Whether the frame rolls on three wheels or four. Three wheels with a locking front swivel track straighter at jogging speed and fit through narrower gaps; four wheels are more stable at a dead stop and when a senior or disabled pet is being loaded. [4] [1] [8]

Values: three_wheel, four_wheel.
Question to ask: Three wheels or four?

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: on the listing, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Almost always in the title ('3-Wheel', '4-Wheel') on brand DTC pages; not independently confirmed on third-party marketplace listings.
Title keyword match; default to four_wheel when unstated, since it is the more common everyday configuration.
Chart: icon count of wheels.

### Interior tethers

How many safety tether points (D-rings or O-rings) are inside the cabin to clip a harness to. A single tether is enough for one calm pet; two or four tethers let a multi-pet household clip each pet separately so one can't climb on or jump past another. [1] [8]

Values: single_tether, double_tether, quad_tether.
Question to ask: Riding alone, or with a second pet?

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Usually in the description ('dual tethers', 'four interior tethers'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match the description; default to single_tether when unstated.

### Bike-trailer compatibility

Whether the stroller can tow behind a bicycle: not convertible at all, convertible with a tow bar sold separately, or convertible with the tow bar included. A bike-trailer combo is judged on a completely different question than a pushed stroller — whether the hitch is included or a separate purchase, and whether the towed weight limit is lower than the stroller-mode limit, confirmed so far on the one researched combo, which drops from 55 lb pushed to 44 lb towed and tops out well under 100 lb either way. [3]

Values: not_convertible, tow_bar_sold_separately, tow_bar_included.
Question to ask: Want it to tow behind a bike too?

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Stated in the description for bike-trailer-collection listings ('bike tow bar sold separately'); otherwise default not_convertible.
Keyword match 'bike trailer' or 'tow bar' in the description.

### Secondary use modes

What else the stroller converts into besides a pushed stroller: nothing extra, a backpack too, or a backpack plus a detachable airline-approved carrier. A travel-carrier type stroller is bought specifically for the modes it converts into — an in-cabin carrier for flights or a backpack for hiking — not for cabin size or ride comfort, which are secondary on these models. [2]

Values: stroller_only, stroller_plus_backpack, stroller_backpack_and_detachable_airline_carrier.
Question to ask: Just a stroller, or also a backpack or airline carrier?

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Stated in the description ('multi-mode: stroller, backpack, or carrier'); otherwise default stroller_only.
Keyword match 'backpack', 'frontpack', or 'airline-approved carrier' in the description.

### Wheel/tire material

What the tires are made of: air-filled (pneumatic) rubber, airless foam or EVA, solid rubber composite, or polyurethane. Air-filled tires absorb the most shock on pavement but can go flat; airless foam, EVA, and PU wheels never need air or repair but ride slightly harder and handle grass or gravel less smoothly, per AKC's guidance to match tire type to terrain. [4] [7] [9]

Values: air_filled_pneumatic, airless_foam_or_eva, solid_rubber_composite, polyurethane_pu, unspecified.

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Usually in the description ('air-filled', 'EVA', 'puncture-free', 'PU wheels'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match the description; 'pump-free', 'airless', or 'EVA' map to airless_foam_or_eva, 'air-filled' or 'pneumatic' map to air_filled_pneumatic.
Chart: position on a ride-smoothness-vs-maintenance axis.

### Front wheel swivel

Whether the front wheel swivels freely for tight turns, locks straight for running, or is fixed and never swivels. A lockable swivel is the single feature that makes a stroller safe to jog with: unlocked, the front wheel can shimmy and dump the frame sideways at running speed; locked, it tracks straight like a true jogging stroller. [7] [6]

Values: lockable_swivel, free_swivel_only, fixed_non_swivel.

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost medium. Look for it as: Stated in the description for jogging models ('lockable front swivel wheel', '360° swivel'), rarely a dedicated field.
Present mainly on jogging-collection listings; default to free_swivel_only for everyday/mobility models unless the description says otherwise.

### Suspension

Whether the frame has shock-absorbing suspension on the front wheel, all wheels, or none. Suspension smooths out curbs, cracks, and trail bumps before they reach the cabin; it matters most for jogging and all-terrain use and least for a flat-sidewalk everyday stroller. [6] [8]

Values: none, front_wheel_only, full_suspension.

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost medium. Look for it as: Stated in the description ('premium suspension system', 'front-wheel suspension'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match 'suspension' in the description; default to none when unstated, since most budget models omit it.

### Brakes

Whether the stroller has no brake, a single rear brake, or a double rear-wheel brake. A double brake holds the stroller stopped on a hill or an incline without drifting, which matters most for jogging strollers and senior or reactive dogs that need the frame to stay put while they're loaded or unloaded. [4] [6]

Values: none, single_rear_brake, double_rear_brake.

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost medium. Look for it as: Stated in the description ('double brake system', 'rear brakes'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match 'brake' in the description; default to none when unstated.

### Folding

How the stroller collapses for storage or transport: a one-hand quick fold, a manual tri-fold, or a fold that stands upright on its own. A one-hand fold matters when the other hand is holding a leash; an upright standing fold saves floor space at home and in a car trunk, where a flat-folding frame has to lean or lie down. [2] [7]

Values: one_hand_quick_fold, tri_fold_manual, upright_standing_fold.

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Usually in the description ('one-hand fold', 'tri-fold frame', 'stands upright when folded'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match the description; default to tri_fold_manual when unstated.

### Canopy & ventilation

How the cabin manages sun and airflow: mesh panels on both sides, mesh on one side only, or a UV-reflective mesh canopy. Mesh on both sides lets a pet see out and keeps air moving in hot weather; a UV-reflective canopy additionally cuts heat buildup for sunny climates, while single-side mesh is the minimum for basic airflow. [4] [6]

Values: mesh_both_sides, mesh_one_side, uv_reflective_mesh_canopy.

Used as: shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Usually in the description ('mesh windows on both sides', 'UV-reflective'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match the description; default to mesh_both_sides, the most common design.

### Storage

What cargo storage the stroller includes: an under-basket alone, a basket plus pockets, or a basket, pockets, and a cup holder together. Daily walkers want a cup holder and pockets within reach without stopping; a basket alone is enough for a short errand but means digging through a bag mid-walk for treats or a water bottle. [8] [3]

Values: basket_only, basket_and_pockets, basket_pockets_and_cup_holder.

Used as: shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Usually in the description ('under-basket', 'organizer pockets', 'cup holder'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match the description; default to basket_only when unstated.

### Handlebar adjustability

Whether the push handle is a fixed height or adjusts for different users. An adjustable handlebar lets two people of different heights both keep a natural stride, which matters most for a jogging stroller where a wrong handle height causes fatigue over a long run. [1] [7]

Values: fixed_height, adjustable_height.

Used as: shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Usually in the description ('adjustable ergonomic handlebar'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match 'adjustable handle' in the description; default to fixed_height when unstated.

### Stroller weight

How much the empty stroller itself weighs. This is what actually gets lifted into a car trunk or carried up stairs, independent of how much pet weight it's rated for; a heavier frame that also holds more pet weight can still be the better deal per pound carried. [2] [5] [1] [6] [8]

Range: 14 to 33 lb.

Used as: shown on the card. Data: on the listing, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Almost always in the spec table as 'Product Weight' on brand DTC pages; not independently confirmed on third-party marketplace listings.
Spec-table field on nearly every listing.
Chart: position on an own-weight axis, 14 to 33 lb.

### Washable/removable lining

Whether the cabin's interior pad or liner detaches from the frame so it can be washed on its own. The liner is what actually touches fur, drool, and muddy paws, so being able to pull it out and machine-wash it instead of wiping down built-in fabric is what keeps the cabin usable week after week, especially for shedding or muddy-paw dogs. [4] [2] [7] [8]

Used as: shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Stated in the description ('removable, washable liner', 'machine-washable carrier pad'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match 'removable' plus 'washable', 'liner', or 'pad' in the description; default to no when the description doesn't say so explicitly.

### Cabin floor area

Whether the cabin's floor footprint (length times width) is compact (under about 400 sq in) or roomy (400-650 sq in). This is the real fit constraint, not the weight cap: a long-bodied or tall dog can be well under the rated weight and still not have room to lie down and turn around, which is exactly the space this facet measures. [4] [8]

Values: compact_under_400_sqin, roomy_400_to_650_sqin.

Used as: filter, shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost medium. Look for it as: Compute from the 'Cabin Dimensions' length and width in the spec table; rarely stated as a single field.
Requires reading two numbers from the spec table and multiplying; backfill the catalog's top sellers first.
Chart: position on a floor-area axis, compact to roomy.

### Frame material

What the main frame is built from: aluminum, aluminum with stainless steel, or aluminum with iron. Aluminum alone keeps the frame light enough to lift one-handed into a trunk and resists rust; adding steel or iron raises weight capacity and rigidity for heavier or larger pets at the cost of some extra heft. [3] [6]

Values: aluminum, aluminum_and_stainless_steel, aluminum_and_iron, unspecified.

Used as: shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Usually in the description ('anodized aluminum', 'stainless steel tubes'), rarely a dedicated field.
Keyword match the description; default to aluminum when unstated, since it's the near-universal base material.

### Step-in height

How high off the ground the cabin floor sits, which is how far a pet has to step or be lifted to get in. This is the actual physical reach a senior, arthritic, or small pet needs to clear to get in, separate from whether there's a ramp or flip door; a low cabin floor plus an access ramp together are what let a pet that can't be lifted get in on its own. [1]

Used as: shown on the card. Data: needs research, backfill cost high. Look for it as: Rarely listed; when present it's a 'height from the ground to the cabin floor' row in the spec table, distinct from the overall or folded dimensions.
Confirmed on only one of the five ibiyaya spec tables checked; treat as unknown rather than estimating when the row is absent.

### Unfolded footprint

The floor space the fully assembled stroller takes up — length times width at its widest, wheels included — distinct from the cabin's own floor area. This is what has to clear a doorway, an elevator, or fit upright next to a desk while in use; a roomy cabin can still sit inside a frame with a much larger footprint than a compact-cabin model, so cabin size and overall footprint can disagree. [2] [5] [3] [1] [4]

Range: 573 to 1242 sq in. roughly 600-1150 sq in for most researched models.

Used as: shown on the card. Data: on the listing, backfill cost low. Look for it as: Spec table as 'Overall Dimension' or 'Stroller Frame (Unfolded)'; multiply the listed length and width.
Spec-table field on every ibiyaya listing checked; multiply the two listed numbers.
Chart: position on an unfolded-footprint axis, 573 to 1242 sq in.

## Numbers worth computing

| Metric | Formula | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Payload-to-weight ratio (lb pet per lb stroller) | `max_pet_weight_capacity / stroller_own_weight` | The number that shows which frame actually gives more pet-carrying capacity per pound you have to lift into a trunk; in the researched models it runs from about 1.1 (small travel carriers) up to 3.3 (heavy-duty 4-wheel frames), so bigger is not just heavier, it's relatively more efficient. |

## What you give up

- A 4-wheel heavy-duty frame like the Grand Cruiser or Titan-HD holds 100+ lb and stands stable while loading a senior dog, but it folds larger, weighs more to lift into a trunk, and doesn't turn as tightly as a 3-wheel jogger. [1] [8] Board branch: "More capacity and stability, less portability".
- The 3-wheel joggers in this research top out around 50-55 lb and build a single-pet cabin, trading the headroom of a 4-wheel frame for a wheel and suspension setup tuned to track straight at running speed. [4] [7] Board branch: "More run-ready handling, less capacity".
- A detachable travel carrier like the JetPaw caps out at 16 lb because it has to double as an in-cabin airline carrier, far below the 50-110 lb range of stroller-only designs built for a single job. [2] Board branch: "More travel modes, less capacity".

## Words you will meet

- **Zipperless entry**. A flip-down or flip-up panel that lets a pet in and out without unzipping anything first.
- **Access ramp**. A small retractable ramp built into the stroller so a pet can walk in instead of being lifted.
- **Swivel wheel**. A front wheel that can pivot for tight turns; some can be locked straight for running.
- **Air-filled (pneumatic) tire**. A tire with an air-filled inner tube, like a bicycle tire; smooth ride but can go flat.
- **Airless (foam/EVA) tire**. A solid foam tire that never needs air or repair, at some cost to ride softness.
- **Polyurethane (PU) tire**. A solid polyurethane tire that, like foam or EVA, never needs air, but is firmer and holds up better to rough or all-terrain use.
- **Ball-bearing axle**. A wheel axle built with ball bearings so the wheel spins smoothly and keeps rolling freely over time.
- **Suspension**. Springs or shock absorbers between the wheel and the frame that soften bumps before they reach the cabin.
- **Safety tether**. A short strap inside the cabin that clips to a pet's harness so it can't jump or climb out.
- **UV-reflective mesh**. Mesh fabric treated to bounce back sunlight and keep the cabin cooler in direct sun.
- **Payload capacity**. The manufacturer's stated maximum pet weight the stroller is built to carry.
- **Tri-fold frame**. A frame that collapses in three hinged sections rather than one simple hinge.
- **MOLLE webbing**. Rows of fabric loops (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) that let a buyer clip on extra pouches or gear.
- **Bike tow bar**. A rigid bar and hitch that connects the stroller frame to a bicycle so it can be towed instead of pushed.
- **Anodized aluminum**. Aluminum treated with a protective oxide layer so it resists rust and corrosion.
- **Airline-approved in-cabin carrier**. A carrier sized to fit under most airline seats so a small pet can ride in the cabin instead of checked cargo.
- **Step-in height**. How high off the ground the cabin floor sits — the vertical step a pet has to clear to get in.
- **Unfolded footprint**. The floor space the whole assembled stroller takes up, wheels included — different from the cabin's own floor area.
- **Washable/removable lining**. An interior pad or liner that unclips from the frame so it can be washed separately.

## Where we made a call

- EN 71-3 and SGS lab testing on stroller fabric means the material passed a heavy-metal migration test, not a dedicated pet-product safety standard. (confidence medium). EN 71-3 is a toy-safety standard for migration of certain elements; ibiyaya cites it on one jogging model's FAQ as a fabric safety claim, since no regulator has a dedicated pet-stroller material standard. [4] [10]
- 3-wheel frames with a lockable swivel suit jogging; 4-wheel frames suit standing stability when loading a senior pet. (confidence medium). Independently confirmed by two brands: both ibiyaya and HPZ market their 3-wheel, swivel-lock models specifically for running and their 4-wheel models specifically for senior/mobility use.
