Scope: Sandboxes & Sand Tables, supplies > play > outdoor-play-structures > sandboxes. Covers home outdoor sand-play containers: ground-level sandboxes and elevated sand/water tables. Excludes sibling leaves (playhouses, slides, swing sets, trampolines, water-play) and loose play-sand bags themselves.

Seed: 1) The sandboxes equivalent of the treadwear example is `sand_capacity_lbs` — a number on most listings ("holds up to X lbs of sand") that experts read alongside footprint and bin count rather than alone, since a bigger number can just mean a bigger box, not more play value. 2) A ship's cook persona would notice the drain plug and liner facets first — anything that holds standing water or lets sand mix into dirt is the thing that creates ongoing cleanup and spoilage, same as a leaky container at sea.

Branches: ground_sandbox -> built_in_seating, shape_or_theme (makes bin_configuration/drain_plug/leg_count_and_stability irrelevant) — supported by kidkraft and littletikes pages having seating/shape but no legs or bins. elevated_sand_table -> bin_configuration, leg_count_and_stability (makes built_in_seating/shape_or_theme/footprint_dimensions_in/ground_contact_barrier irrelevant) — supported by step2 pages having legs/bins but no seating or ground liner mentioned. sand_and_water -> drain_plug asked; play_sand_only -> drain_plug irrelevant — supported by step2_dino (drain plug, has water) vs step2_sand_table (no drain plug, sand only).

Noise: price (never a facet, per rule) — left out of step2/kidkraft listings despite being on every page. "Made in USA" / country of origin — brand marketing claim, not an expert-judged spec. Review-summary percentages (e.g. "Lid Usability 12%") — third-party review-aggregator artifacts, not maker spec rows. Umbrella/canopy fabric color and box color options (navy/white, gray/honey) — cosmetic variant, not a differentiating facet. Shipping box dimensions (vs assembled dimensions) — logistics detail, not a buyer-facing spec.

WebSearch was exhausted for this session; all research done via curl fetches of Wikipedia and three brands' own product pages (Step2, KidKraft, Little Tikes), grepped locally. No independent buyer's-guide/comparison review was reachable (CPSC, Wirecutter, Good Housekeeping, The Spruce, archive.org all blocked or 403/429); the three brand spec sheets across both product types stood in for the coverage-test row list.

Corrections (2026-10-26):
- Reclassified 17 facets from source: listing to source: researched (product_type, recommended_age_range, body_material, sand_capacity_lbs, cover_type, empty_weight_lbs, included_accessories, compatible_fill_media, ground_contact_barrier, assembly_type, footprint_dimensions_in, built_in_seating, shade_feature, shape_or_theme, bin_configuration, drain_plug, leg_count_and_stability) — curl to walmart.com and target.com returned no usable third-party retail spec data (stale/unrelated page and a JS search shell), confirming retail listings are unreachable; per house rule these stay brand-page-only and so are researched, not listing.
- Widened sand_capacity_lbs range to 20-200 lb and added step2_naturally_playful_sandbox as a third source: fetched step2.com/products/naturally-playful-sandbox, confirmed "200 lb. sand capacity".
- Widened empty_weight_lbs range to 10-26 lb, same new source: confirmed "Weight: 26 lbs" shipping weight on the same page.
- Dropped versatile_fill_sand_water_or_balls from compatible_fill_media's values — it had no branch leg and no evidence citation anywhere in the register; the split now exactly covers both remaining values.
- Added shade_feature to the elevated_sand_table branch's makes_irrelevant list, matching shade_feature's own listing_field_hint ("applies only to ground boxes").
- Redefined recommended_age_range as three non-overlapping bands (12_to_23_months, 2_to_4_years, 5_years_and_up), dropping the overlapping 2_to_5_years/3_years_and_up pair; updated the matching backfill_note default.
- Added a new facet water_capacity_gal (3-4 gal range) plus a vocabulary entry and a then_ask leg on the sand_and_water branch; fetched step2.com/products/dino-dig-sand-water-table ("4 gallons... of water") and step2.com/products/cascading-cove-sand-water-table ("3 gallons... of water") as its two sources, added as new references.
- Added a caveat to leg_count_and_stability's backfill_note noting both values are confirmed on only two Step2 SKUs, not a second brand.
- Rejected: did not add a built-in-accessory-storage facet. Fetched littletikes_turtle_sandbox, littletikes_digger_sandbox, kidkraft_backyard_sandbox and kidkraft_canopy_sandbox pages and found no second source naming dedicated accessory storage (only the popularmechanics.com buyer's guide does); adding a facet with one source would break the two-source rule, so this is logged here as Noise instead: "space to store shovels/pails" (popularmechanics.com/.../best-sandboxes) is a named buyer consideration with no second confirming source, left out as a facet pending one.
- Rejected further action on leg_count_and_stability beyond the caveat above: searched littletikes.com for a dual-leg elevated sand/water table and found only pure water-play tables (out of scope per the sandboxes/water-play split), so no second-brand confirmation was available within budget.
