# Planners, Calendars & Dated Goods: research notes

Date: 2026-10-25. Scope: paper goods organised around dates: bound planners and diaries (dated and undated), ring binder planners and their dated inserts, wall calendars, desk calendars (easel, page-a-day block, dated desk pad) and multi-year dated journals. Not plain or dot-grid notebooks and bullet-journal notebooks (sibling `notebooks`), dry-erase or magnetic calendar boards (sibling `stationery-boards`), office filing ring binders (sibling `binders`), plain desk blotters (sibling `desk-mats`; a printed dated desk pad stays here), digital planners, or advent calendars (toy or food goods). Overlaps: undated planners sit close to notebooks; they stay here because they carry a planner layout. Multi-year journals are kept as a `time_span` value but are found by name, not by the cold-start question. Loose ring-binder inserts are a `product_form` value here; bound refills such as TRAVELER'S notebook Refill 019 (stitched, usable on its own, per JetPens) count as bound planners. Organiser binders (Filofax-type) stay here whether or not they ship with dated inserts: `binders` cedes "planner and organiser binders sold as dated goods", and an empty organiser is bought by planner size and ring pattern, not by document capacity (our call). Paper calendars with a magnet (Calendars.com "Magnetic Calendars") stay here; magnetic and dry-erase boards go to `stationery-boards`. In the Zamana taxonomy this is `supplies > stationery > planners`.

Quote labels: **verbatim** = the sentence in quotation marks was in text I read myself (curl plus HTML stripping into the scratchpad); **fetched excerpt** = a fetch tool summarised the page; **search excerpt** = the claim came from a search-engine summary because the page itself was not read. A search-excerpt-only number does not go in category.json. Every quote below is verbatim unless labelled otherwise.

Research constraint: the session's web-search budget ran out after three searches, so every other source was reached by known URL with curl. JetPens blocks curl (Cloudflare challenge) and WebFetch (403), so the three JetPens guides were read from Internet Archive snapshots (`web.archive.org/web/2025/...`). Wirecutter's planner guide returned a 404 in the archive. At-A-Glance and Blue Sky did not respond. Amazon was not attempted.

## Seed

Seed output (verbatim):

```
=== Example entry (from an unrelated category) ===
category: kitchen-knives
what this shows: a numeric spec that only makes sense as one side of a trade-off, and a visual grammar borrowed from the hobbyist community that puts the trade-off on one axis.
<example> { "id": "steel_hardness", "label": "Steel hardness", ... "unit": "HRC", "range": { "min": 52, "max": 66, ... }, "roles": ["annotation", "sort_key"], "novice_answerable": false, ... "visual": { "chartable": true, "grammar": "edge retention versus toughness scale", ... } } </example>
Trade-off entry it belongs to: { "optimise": "steel_hardness", "give_up": "toughness and ease of sharpening", ... "see_more_branch": "See more low-maintenance knives" }
=== Persona ===
An allergist, who thinks in exposure, dose and what is hidden in the ingredients list
```

1. **The planner equivalent of steel hardness is paper weight (gsm).** It only means something as one side of a trade: thin paper lets a page-a-day book hold a year and stay carryable; thick paper hides the previous page. Hemlock & Oak states the trade directly ("Thinner paper is what lets our biggest books stay carryable. The trade-off is more show-through than 120gsm"), and JetPens describes the same for Tomoe River. **Kept** as `paper_gsm`, an annotation, with a two-axis grammar (gsm against page count). Unlike HRC there is no hobbyist scale; the grammar is a proposal.
2. **The allergist notices what is hidden in the ingredients list: what is printed on the dated pages that the title does not say.** Holidays are the clearest case: Hobonichi's Japanese editions print Japanese holidays and Rokuyo, its English Cousin prints none. Week start (Monday or Sunday) is the second. "Dose" maps to how much of a dated book is already used up when you buy it, which became the `months_left` derived metric. **Kept**: `holiday_region`, `week_start`, `months_left`. **Dropped**: cover material (PVC, leather) as an exposure facet, and coated or scented papers; no source treats either as a buyer concern.

## Sources and what each supports

### Brand guides and spec pages

**Hemlock & Oak, How to Choose Your 2027 Planner**
https://www.hemlockandoak.com/blogs/theweeklyspread/how-to-choose-your-2027-planner
- "It covers all four 2027 layouts (vertical, horizontal, daily, and combined), the sizes we print them in, and the honest trade-offs of each".
- Vertical: "A vertical weekly planner gives each day its own column, with hours running from top to bottom." "it makes time feel finite. When you write a two-hour meeting into a two-hour block, you can see what it costs you." Trade-off: "an hourly grid can feel like pressure to fill in a schedule."
- Horizontal: "runs the seven days as rows down the left-hand page, with the whole right-hand page left open"; "it's more difficult to view your daily schedule".
- Daily: "The honest trade-off: weight, and losing the weekly view. The Minimalist Daily weighs 1,008g (2.2 lbs), and the Signature Daily 908g despite carrying more pages, because 70gsm paper is lighter."
- Split volumes: "The Daily Duo splits the same 416 pages into two half-year books of 208 pages each, at 457g per book".
- A6: "it's genuinely small. A day of appointments plus journaling won't fit."
- Combined: "A single-volume combined is our heaviest book at over a kilogram ... If you're not sure you'll use the daily pages, buy a weekly first and find out."
- Size: "Size decides whether a planner actually travels with you, and a planner that stays home doesn't get used." "B6 and A6 travel. A5 is the middle ground. But a B5 stays on your desk."
- Paper: "Heritage 120gsm (80lb) is thick, bright white, and highly bleed-resistant." "Archivist 70gsm is thinner ... and fountain-pen-friendly. Thinner paper is what lets our biggest books stay carryable. The trade-off is more show-through than 120gsm".
- Abandonment: "You bought the layout you thought you should use. This is the big one." Undated: "an undated planner will give you more flexibility on when you start and stop, and take the pressure off."
- Week start: Signature Vertical Weekly "is also available in a Sunday Start format."
- Supports: layouts, trade-offs, split volumes, size-by-carry rule, gsm trade-off, week start, abandonment judgement. Confidence medium-high (a seller, but unusually candid about trade-offs).

**Hobonichi Techo 2026 type guides (Planner, Cousin, Weeks)**
https://www.1101.com/store/techo/en/2026/all_about/planner/ , .../cousin/ , .../weeks/
- Planner: "The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper. It's characterized by its ability to hold ink well and provide a smooth writing experience." "Special stitch-binding allows the planner to lay completely flat". "The 105 x 148 mm (roughly 4"x 6") A6 size". "The formula we use begins counting with the first week in January that includes a Thursday." "(Only available as a January-start ...)".
- Cousin: "At 148 mm x 210 mm (5.8" x 8.3"), the A5 size is twice the size of its A6 Original counterpart". English edition: "the calendars do not list holidays." "The Cousin also comes as an "Avec" version, which splits the year into two books, each one covering six months." "January-start version: January 2026 to December 2026 / April-start version: April 2026 to March 2027". Monthly days "labeled with Rokuyo".
- Weeks: "It has a weekly horizontal layout with the weekly pages on the left and grid memo pages on the right." "Japanese national holidays are printed lightly." "April-start version (Japanese only): April 2026 to March 2027".
- Search excerpt only (not used in JSON): Original A6 464 pages, 195 g; Avec "(July Start)" product title.
- Supports: holiday_region, split_volumes, binding lay-flat, A5/A6 dims, April start, ISO week rule, Tomoe River ink claim.

**Leuchtturm1917, Planners** https://www.leuchtturm1917.com/planners

- Supports: academic start July, 18-month span.

**Erin Condren, LifePlanner and Academic Planner**
https://www.erincondren.com/lifeplanner , https://www.erincondren.com/academic-planner

- Supports: layout vocabulary, coil binding, pounds as a US paper unit, chosen academic start month.

**Bespoke Letterpress, How To Choose the Right Planner Format**
https://bespokepress.com.au/blogs/news/how-to-choose-the-right-planner-format
- "If your day is packed with appointments, meetings, or school pickups, a vertical layout can help keep things visually ordered." Horizontal: "A horizontal format gives you a clean, structured space to jot down tasks, reminders, or even short journal entries for each day."
- Supports: vertical against horizontal (second source after Hemlock & Oak).

### Specialist retailer guides (Internet Archive copies)

**JetPens, How to Choose a Planner & Planning Strategies**
https://www.jetpens.com/blog/How-to-Choose-a-Planner-Planning-Strategies/pt/946 (read via web.archive.org/web/2025/)
- "A monthly planner suits the former while a daily planner fits the latter. If you need to plan out daily tasks and consider the days ahead, choose a weekly planner."
- "In dated planners, each passing day becomes obsolete if you skip it. For some, the growing number of blank pages can be an anxiety-inducing experience, which may lead to abandoned planners." "One major benefit to dated planners is that they offer structure and keep you accountable to planning."
- "Most planners come in A5 or A6 size." "A5 planners ... offer more space to work with than an A6 planner since you get twice as much surface area per page."
- "Planners with stapled covers tend to be lightweight"; "planners with stitched and glued bindings feel more personal and luxurious"; twin-ring "makes it easy to flip through the pages" and allows perforated pages, "not present in most planners due to binding constraints."
- Supports: time_span, dated/undated trade-off, size, binding.

**JetPens, The Best Planners for 2026**
https://www.jetpens.com/blog/The-Best-Planners-for-2026/pt/97 (archive)
- "Many of the weekly planners we carry have Monday-start weeks. If you're used to planners that start on Sundays, it may take some time for you to get used to a Monday-start planner."
- "A horizontal weekly planner can be designed in one of two ways: one has the weeks taking up the left and right page, while the horizontal with memo has the week on the left and a blank page on the right."
- Spec tables (Name / Format / Size / Features): Midori Diary Hibino "Daily A6 ... 52 gsm Tomoe River S paper"; STALOGY 365Days "Daily B5, A5, B6, A6 ... 52 gsm paper"; Roterfaden Layout 1 "Weekly Horizontal with Memo ... 70 gsm paper"; Leuchtturm1917 Weekly Planner "Weekly Horizontal A5, A6 ... 80 gsm paper"; STALOGY Slim Monthly "84 gsm"; Laconic "84.6 gsm". "High-quality paper like Midori MD paper has no showthrough and no bleedthrough."
- Supports: gsm values, week start, horizontal-with-memo, which fields a specialist retailer lists (format, size, gsm).

**JetPens, What to Expect with the Tomoe River Paper in the Hobonichi Techo**
https://www.jetpens.com/blog/What-to-Expect-with-the-Tomoe-River-Paper-in-the-Hobonichi-Techo/pt/1044 (archive)
- "You will see some showthrough (the shadow of writing on the back of the page), but less than you'd expect for such a thin paper." "You may experience bleedthrough (ink seeping through the paper to the back of the page) with inky writing instruments like fountain pens."
- "This thinness means that the A6 Original has over 450 pages, and is just 0.6 inches (1.4 cm) thick and weighs 6.9 ounces (195 grams)!"
- Supports: thin paper trade-off; disagreement with Hobonichi's "hold ink well".

### Enthusiast community

**Planning Engineered (Luis Duque), Planner Insert Sizes Explained** https://planningengineered.com/planner-insert-sizes
- Table: "A5 148 × 210", "Half Letter 139.7 × 215.9", "B6 125 × 176", "A6 105 × 148", "Personal 95 × 171", "Pocket 81 × 120".
- "A5 and Half Letter look interchangeable and aren't."
- "Within a size, six-ring patterns are standard across Filofax, Plotter, Sterling Ink, and most other binder brands ... a six-ring Personal page will never sit in a seven-ring Classic b[inder]".
- "On a desk, go A5 ... In a bag, B6 and Personal earn their keep. In a pocket, Pocket, and nothing bigger".
- "the rings mean I can pull a finished project out instead of copying it forward."

**Philofaxy, Filofax Sizes** https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2009/10/filofax-sizes.html
- Table H x W (mm): "A5 210 x 148 2 x 3", "Personal 171 x 95 2 x 3", "Slimline 171 x 95", "Compact 171 x 95", "Pocket 120 x 81".

**Philofaxy, Ring Size and Capacity** https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2023/09/ring-size-and-capacity.html
- "the paper on the inside of the rings will start to push the rings open when you attempt to close your organiser."
- Capacity on 70 gsm paper: 30 mm 330 sheets, 25 mm 270, 23 mm 250, 19 mm 200, 15 mm 150, 13 mm 120, 11 mm 105. Single source; kept here only.

### Standards

**Wikipedia, ISO week date** https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_week_date
- "Weeks start with Monday and end on Sunday." "definition for calendar week 01 is the week with the first Thursday of the Gregorian year (i.e., of January) in it."
- iso.org's ISO 8601 page returned only a challenge page. Hobonichi's rule ("the first week in January that includes a Thursday") agrees.

No safety, health or regulatory standard governs planners or calendars as a buyer concern; FSC and acid-free claims appear on brand pages (Hemlock & Oak) but are certifications, which AGENTS.md cuts. No safety facet.

## Data points used for derived metrics

- `months_left`: arithmetic on `date_range`; example Jan–Dec 2026 bought October 2026 → Oct, Nov, Dec = 3. Date ranges stated by Hobonichi ("January 2026 to December 2026"; "April 2026 to March 2027"); 18-month July start by Leuchtturm1917.
- `price_per_month`: price / months_left. No sourced number.
- `space_per_day`: page dimensions from Planning Engineered and Philofaxy; days per page from the layout definitions (daily 1 page, weekly 2 pages for 7 days, monthly 2 pages for about 30). Example: A5 weekly = 148 × 210 / 100 × 2/7 ≈ 89 cm² per day; A6 daily = 105 × 148 / 100 ≈ 155 cm². Margins ignored, so a rough figure.

## Against the existing add-on schema

Add-on read: `supplies/stationery/add-ons/planner.jsonc` (`dated_status` enum [dated, undated, perpetual, academic_year, not_applicable, unspecified], `sizing.date_range_raw`), composed with `stationery-standard.jsonc` (empty) and `supplies-standard.jsonc` (`high_signal_markdown`, `sizing.size_stated`, `pack_count`, `pieces_included_text`, `dimensions`, `capacity`, `weight`, `measurements_text`). Kinds follow AGENTS.md rule 4 (vertical anchor, quality currency, hard filter, sizing) or markdown / visual / cut. Proposals only; nothing edited.

| Facet in this doc | In add-on today | Proposed kind under AGENTS.md | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| product_form | no | hard filter (enum: bound_planner, ring_binder_planner, ring_binder_inserts, wall_calendar, desk_calendar) | The leaf mixes four forms that share almost no buyers. Text states it in every title. |
| time_span | no | hard filter (enum: daily, weekly, weekly_and_daily, monthly, multi_year) | The main planner axis; brand subtitles lead with it. Outside sizing (same across size variants). |
| weekly_orientation | no | hard filter (enum: vertical_hourly, vertical_blocks, horizontal, horizontal_with_notes, other, not_applicable) | Text says "vertical", "hourly", "dashboard", but "vertical" alone does not separate hourly from blocks, so the photo is needed for those. |
| start_month | partly, `dated_status` (academic_year) | hard filter | Proposal: replace `dated_status` with `start_month` enum [january, july, april, chosen_month, undated, perpetual]. `academic_year` hides the month, and April-start Japanese editions and Erin Condren's chosen-month books have nowhere to go. |
| date_range | yes, `sizing.date_range_raw` | keep, but move out of `sizing` | The date range does not vary by size variant (Moleskine sells one span in pocket and large), so rule 2 puts it outside `sizing`. Parse to first and last month for `months_left`. |
| carry_size | partly, `sizing.size_stated` and `dimensions` | sizing (bought-by-name) | Proposal: `sizing.page_format` enum [pocket, personal, a6, b6, a5, half_letter, a5_plus, 7x9_in, b5_or_larger, other]. Brand words (Moleskine "large") need a lookup. |
| ring_format | no | hard filter, inside `sizing` | Insert buyers filter by literal size and ring pattern; it varies by binder size variant. |
| paper_gsm | no (notebook add-on has `paper_gsm`) | quality currency | Same currency as notebooks; reuse the notebook field name. Accept lb with a basis flag rather than converting blind. Sparse: most listings give `paper_stock` instead. |
| paper_stock | no | high_signal_markdown | Named stock (Tomoe River, MD paper); present far more often than a gsm. |
| calendar_size | no | hard filter, inside `sizing` (enum: mini, slim, square, standard, large_or_poster) | Retailer size navigation; varies by size variant. |
| split_volumes | no | high_signal_markdown | One line ("two six-month books"); rare. |
| week_start | no | hard filter (enum: monday, sunday) | Not visible in a hero photo; stated in some names. |
| holiday_region | no | high_signal_markdown | Matters for imports and English editions; too sparse for a column. |
| binding | no | visual (cut) | A photo answers coil against sewn; "lies flat" claims go in markdown. |
| calendar_style | no | visual (cut) | Picture against big grid is answered by the image pipeline. |

Add-on fields this register considers noise for planners: `dated_status: not_applicable` (every item in this leaf is dated, undated or perpetual), `sizing.capacity` (no meaning for paper goods here), `sizing.pack_count` except for multipack wall calendars, and `measurements_text` (rule 5 cuts it anyway).

## Branches

- product_form = ring binder planner or ring binder inserts → ask ring_format, time_span; binding, split_volumes, calendar_style and calendar_size irrelevant. Chain: inserts must match size and ring pattern (Planning Engineered "a six-ring Personal page will never sit in a seven-ring Classic", with the Pocket-drift caveat); ring_format now has a question (the binder size name), and carry_size is skipped through its skip_if_known `ring_format`, because the size name already sets the page size. Binding is the rings by definition; split_volumes is a bound-book fix by its definition (the Planning Engineered "pull a finished project out" quote is about projects and is no longer cited for this leg); calendar facets by definition. SUPPORTED.
- product_form = wall or desk calendar → ask calendar_style, calendar_size, start_month; paper_gsm, paper_stock, ring_format, split_volumes and carry_size irrelevant. Chain: Calendars.com organises calendars by style (big grid, page-a-day) and by academic or 18-month span; Calendars.com and Calendar Club both shop by size (Mini Wall, Poster; Mini, Slim, Square, A4, A3, Large); carry_size names book pages, not calendars; no source discusses calendar paper (judgement, low confidence). Binding is no longer irrelevant here: JetPens lists a Midori Desk Ring Calendar. Picture themes are left to search. WEAK on the paper legs (absence of evidence); kept with the low-confidence judgement attached.
- product_form = bound planner → ask time_span, carry_size; ring_format, calendar_style and calendar_size irrelevant. Trivial from the definitions; Hemlock & Oak "Size decides whether a planner actually travels with you".
- time_span = weekly → ask weekly_orientation, week_start. Chain: vertical against horizontal only exists on weekly spreads (Hemlock & Oak, JetPens, Bespoke); JetPens raises Monday-start in its weekly section. SUPPORTED.
- time_span = daily or weekly and daily → ask split_volumes, carry_size. Chain: daily books are the heavy ones (Hemlock & Oak 1,008 g), the half-year split is the fix (Hemlock Daily Duo, Hobonichi Avec), and A6 is too small for a day of appointments plus journaling (Hemlock & Oak). paper_gsm was removed from this leg: it has no question and most listings give no gsm, so it stays an annotation (with paper_stock) on the card. SUPPORTED.
- time_span = monthly → weekly_orientation and split_volumes irrelevant. Definition (no weekly spreads; split volumes are sold only for daily books in both sources). SUPPORTED.
- start_month = undated → holiday_region and date_range irrelevant. Holidays and ranges are printed on dated pages only (definitions). SUPPORTED. (week_start is not on this leg: undated weekly books may still print day labels, and I have no source either way.)
- start_month = January, July (academic), April (Japanese school year) or any month you choose → ask week_start. Chain: week start is a printed fact of dated pages (Hobonichi "(Monday start)" edition names; Hemlock & Oak "Sunday Start format"). holiday_region was removed from this leg: it has no question and is shown as an annotation. SUPPORTED.
- carry_size: no branches. Size is independent of the other answers; it is skipped when ring_format is known.

## Numbers in category.json and how many sources stand behind each

| Number | Sources |
|---|---|
| A5 148 × 210 mm | Planning Engineered, Philofaxy, Hobonichi Cousin |
| A5 twice A6 area | JetPens choose, Hobonichi Cousin |
| Personal 95 × 171 mm | Planning Engineered, Philofaxy |
| Six-ring / seven-ring | Planning Engineered; Philofaxy table "2 x 3" for six-ring (Filofax only). Cross-brand interchange rests on Planning Engineered alone, so judgement lowered to medium |
| A6 daily ≈ 155 cm², A5 weekly ≈ 89 cm², A5 horizontal with notes ≈ 44 cm² per day | Arithmetic on A5 and A6 dimensions (each two sources) |
| 70 gsm | Hemlock & Oak (Archivist 70), JetPens (Roterfaden 70) |
| 52 gsm | JetPens tables (three cells); Goulet Pens Tomoe River sheets "52gsm" |
| 120 gsm | Hemlock & Oak only. Single source, so removed from category.json after the blind check. |
| 13 of 16 JetPens gsm cells in 70 to 84.6 | JetPens only, stated in category.json as a count of that one source's table, not as a category range |
| 80 lb (Erin Condren) | Erin Condren page; quoted as a label, not converted. Hemlock & Oak gives "Heritage 120gsm (80lb)", so the register now says convert only where a brand states both |
| 12 / 15 / 16 / 18 months | Moleskine (12, 15, 18), Leuchtturm1917 (12, 16, 18) |
| Academic start July | Leuchtturm1917 only for July itself; Erin Condren sells a chosen start month; Calendars.com sells "Academic Calendars" without a month. August dropped (no source). |
| April start Japanese | Hobonichi Weeks and Cousin pages; JetPens KOKUYO "(April Start)"; Wikipedia Education in Japan |
| ISO week 1 = first Thursday, Monday start | Wikipedia ISO week date; Hobonichi |
| 3 months left example | Arithmetic |

## Dropped

- Book weight as a facet. Hemlock & Oak gives weights for every book and JetPens one for the Hobonichi A6, but no two sources give the same number, and `sizing.weight` already exists. The weight trade-off is carried by `time_span`, `paper_gsm` and `split_volumes`.
- Ring diameter and capacity. Single source (Philofaxy); noted under `ring_format`.
- Cover type (hard, soft, flex). On every Moleskine subtitle, but nothing says it changes the planning; photo-visible.
- Extras (notes pages, stickers, goal pages, bonus pages). Hemlock & Oak names too many journaling pages as a reason for abandonment, which is a real point, but page counts of extras are too uneven to be a facet; markdown.
- Guided or productivity systems (Passion Planner, Day Designer goal pages). Brand features, not a category split.
- Lay-flat as a boolean. Folded into `binding`.

## Trimmed detail

- `paper_gsm`: Hemlock & Oak's own weights show the trade: 416-page Minimalist Daily on 120 gsm 1,008 g; 528-page Signature Daily on 70 gsm 908 g. JetPens: Hobonichi A6 over 450 pages, 1.4 cm, 195 g.
- `carry_size`: Planning Engineered gives Half Letter 139.7 × 215.9 mm, "8 millimeters narrower and 6 taller" than A5 (single source, so kept out of the JSON). Hemlock & Oak's "A5+" house size is 6.35 × 8.5 in.
- `ring_format`: Philofaxy capacity on 70 gsm sheets: 30 mm rings 330 sheets down to 11 mm 105 sheets.
- `weekly_orientation`: Hemlock & Oak vertical runs 6am to 10pm; Hobonichi Cousin's weekly pages run 0:00 to 24:00.
- `holiday_region`: Hobonichi notes "National holidays are subject to change due to reasons like law revisions", so even the right country's holidays can be wrong once printed.

## Script problems

- The brief asks for `"vertical": "supplies"`, but `schema.json` allows only formulations, machines, fashion, furnishing, other, and `validate.py` rejects `supplies`. To get a clean validate I set `"vertical": "other"`. The scripts were not modified. The labels run in the same batch has `"supplies"` and will fail validation the same way.

## Corrections

- 2026-10-25, before hand-off: removed `weekly_orientation` from the calendar branch's irrelevant list (JetPens lists a weekly desk calendar); removed `week_start` from the undated branch (no source); removed Half Letter dimensions from the JSON (single source).

## Corrections after the blind check (2026-10-25)

Report: check.md, 13 required fixes. One line per change.

1. space_per_day: why text corrected (A6 daily ≈155 cm² is about 75% more than A5 weekly ≈89 cm², not "similar"); formula now has 1 + 2/7 for weekly and daily and 1/7 for horizontal with notes; depends_on adds weekly_orientation. (CONTRADICTED claim resolved.)
2. weekly_orientation: values split into "vertical, hourly", "vertical, blocks", "horizontal (day rows)", "horizontal with notes page", "other (such as dashboard)" (Erin Condren four layouts; Bespoke morning, afternoon, evening blocks; Hemlock & Oak hour columns).
3. weekly_orientation: definition, why text and question rewritten ("Hour-by-hour columns, day columns in blocks, or rows for lists?").
4. weekly_orientation: listing hint now says "vertical" alone does not give hourly or blocks; backfill raised low → medium (the photo must be read for every vertical listing).
5. Mechanism: vertical columns now "often with hours", not always.
6. Trade-off "vertical weekly layout" renamed "hourly vertical layout"; vocabulary "Vertical layout" redefined and "Hourly layout" added.
7. carry_size: sources' disagreement on A6 in a pocket stated in a new judgement (sources_disagree true): Hemlock & Oak rule followed for bound books, Planning Engineered for binders, whose buyers answer ring_format instead.
8. carry_size: A5 under both bag and desk kept with a stated tie-break (Hemlock & Oak "middle ground"; the answers separate on the sizes around it).
9. carry_size: values add A5+ (Hemlock & Oak) and 7 × 9 in (Erin Condren); 8 × 10 in stated as falling under "B5 and larger". No mm conversions added (no second source).
10. carry_size: added to the calendar branch's makes_irrelevant, and to be skipped when ring_format is known (skip_if_known).
11. carry_size: question reworded to planner sizes ("Pocket-size A6, bag-size B6 or A5, or desk-size B5?") to leave the generic trap.
12. carry_size: rationale's uncited "four to six sizes" replaced by Hemlock & Oak's five sizes and Planning Engineered's six insert sizes. Half Letter non-interchange sentence dropped from why text for length (still in the planning_engineered_sizes supports line).
13. paper_gsm: range restated as the JetPens count (13 of 16 gsm cells in 70 to 84.6; three at 52 gsm, now also Goulet); 120 gsm removed from category.json (single source); "most planners in the JetPens tables" removed.
14. paper_gsm: unit "GM" → "gsm", matching the notebooks register.
15. paper_gsm: listing hint says most listings name the stock; lb handling now cites Hemlock & Oak "Heritage 120gsm (80lb)" as the case where both units are stated (fix 13 of the report).
16. New facet paper_stock (text, annotation, listing) so the named stock leads and gsm is secondary.
17. start_month: "July or August (academic)" → "July (academic)"; August dropped, no source found.
18. start_month: new value "any month you choose" (Erin Condren academic); question now offers "starting right away", with the rule that it maps to undated, chosen-month and dated books ranked by months_left.
19. start_month: April rule now "where school starts in April", sourced to Wikipedia Education in Japan plus Hobonichi and JetPens KOKUYO April Start; student_status removed from skip_if_known (being a student does not settle the month).
20. start_month and date_range listing hints: Moleskine "18 months" gives the span, not the first month.
21. week_start: Hobonichi "Mon or Sun start" removed; Hobonichi edition names state Monday start; Hemlock & Oak Sunday Start is the both-options example. "Japanese and European" and "Japanese and European brands default to Monday" removed (JetPens says "weekly planners we carry", not by region).
22. Judgement 3: Pocket-drift caveat added, note corrected (Philofaxy table shows "2 x 3" for all sizes, Filofax only; diameters were a reader comment), confidence high → medium.
23. ring_format: given a cold_start_question ("Personal, A5, Pocket, or another binder size?"), novice_answerable true, cost_to_answer 4 → 2; why text adds the Pocket caveat and drops the unsourced home-printed-inserts sentence.
24. paper_gsm removed from the daily branch's then_ask (no question; annotation only).
25. holiday_region removed from the dated branch's then_ask (no question; annotation only).
26. New facet calendar_size (Calendars.com and Calendar Club UK size navigation), asked on the calendar branch; picture themes stated as left to search in calendar_style.
27. binding removed from the calendar branch's makes_irrelevant (JetPens Midori Desk Ring Calendar); binding why text notes it; judgement 5 reworded to paper only.
28. product_form: new value "ring binder inserts", merged into the ring binder branch; TRAVELER'S refills placed under bound planner; ring and calendar branches now also drop calendar_style and calendar_size where they do not apply.
29. Scope: organiser binders with or without inserts owned here; paper magnetic calendars here, magnetic boards to stationery-boards (notes.md scope paragraph).
30. product_form: question reworded ("Bound or spiral book, ring binder, inserts, wall or desk calendar?") and why text says coil "soft ring"/"twin-ring" books are bound planners.
31. product_form rationale: uncited "three quarters of the catalog" removed.
32. time_span: question uses "a week across two pages" instead of "spread"; why text "doubles the pages" changed to "needs far more pages" (a daily book has far more than twice a weekly's pages).
33. date_range backfill low → medium; split_volumes backfill none → low with a per-brand lookup note.
34. References: added goulet_tomoe, wiki_edu_japan, calendar_club; supports lines updated for hemlock_guide, jetpens_best, planning_engineered_sizes, bespoke_formats, erin_condren, hobonichi_cousin, hobonichi_weeks.

Rejected or partly rejected:
- Report fix 3, "stop A5 sitting under both bag and desk": kept under both, with a tie-break stated, because both sources place A5 in the middle (Hemlock & Oak "Fits most bags", Planning Engineered "On a desk, go A5").
- Report fix 9, theme facet: not added. Themes are open-ended words already in the query and the title, so search carries them; calendar_style says so.
- Report claim 6's suggestion to treat the cross-brand ring claim as single-source: accepted, but the claim stays in the register at medium rather than being removed, since no source contradicts it.
